Subtitle? How Lilly spent her holiday vacation. Being a crazy-smart girl, Lilly knows how to ride a snow sled while being pulled along, but she also sometimes rides down the hill with me. Over our holiday break, we enlisted Mr. Champion of My Heart to shoot some video.
I’m not keen on being immortalized in video bundled up in my bulky snow suit. We thought you might enjoy seeing what we did with all the snow that fell on the Winter Solstice.

It took four years and innumerable tries before we FINALLY got a new avatar photo of me and Lilly. I cannot tell you how many attempts to replace our favorite photo from December 2007 resulted in me sobbing. I’m not the most photogenic person, and I take bad photos personally. Here, then, is our new favorite picture … along with a few outtakes … because I really did NOT want to be that girl who uses a terribly outdated photo online.

In today’s backstory video, Lilly — our intrepid dog — learns to SIT-STAY atop a small sled while being pulled along in the snow of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Clearly, she finds it very, very funny. Read the rest of this entry »
Sometimes I capture images of Lilly that reveal a sliver of her soul. She is the most earnest, sincere, and focused dog I’ve ever known. Observe. (I posted 3 of these photos to our Champion of My Heart Facebook fan page last week, but the others are debuting here.) Which one is your favorite?

Rather than suffer trauma-by-TV, Lilly and I went for a hike Sunday, September 11, 2011. It’s our version of praying, I suppose you could say.
It has been a HUGE snake year with many sightings nearby, so I’m ever-vigilant … constantly sweeping the trail ahead with my eyes.
Look what I found:

I admit it. I’m a Wordless Wednesday rule-breaker. I always say too much. Today, let’s talk dog harnesses. The one Lilly is wearing here is actually Ginko’s (scaled down badly). I need to find a good one for Lilly, so any and all recommendations welcome.

Look what Lilly just found under our shed. We’ve seen “wild ferrets” on our property before. Years ago. But this one is new. It looks pretty young to me. It was totally poking its head out to check out Lilly as much as she was checking it out. Yay! My Friday the 13th Baby Ferret. Whoo hoo!

One of the largest truly wild herds of elk in the region spend the winter and spring near us. Most times, they stay back in the many-thousand-acre open space park, but last week, a bunch of them made a visit to the hillside behind our house. They hung around pretty much all day — grazing, sleeping, and such.

We began our celebrations of Tom’s birthday Friday with a hike. We did not know at the time that it would be the highlight of a weekend that ultimately got consumed by other things, including germs. So, consider this a “Mute Monday” …

Saturday, we stepped away from real life for just a bit to take our first hike of the season. Lilly isn’t quite as good as KB’s labs at posing for photos upon chosen peaks or rock outcroppings, but she tries.

Other than a brief stint in Arizona around age 5, right before my parents divorced, I’ve lived in Colorado. The cold? I’m used to it (mostly). And, yet, this winter loomed particularly chilly and simply will not quit. So, seriously, Spring? You coming any time soon?
