Lilly, our intrepid canine heroine, is picky when it comes to toys she’ll fetch. However, she also remains connoisseur of the silliest sticks imaginable. Often she’d rather play with little more than a piece of mulch than the fanciest fetch toy out there. These photos tell that story.

Oh, it’s Monday alright. I made a few decisions these last 3 days (you know, like spending time with my hubby, pups, and family) that sends me into a new week behind on pretty much everything. Yes, I had some coffee (rare for me), but I thought we’d share a little Lilly-style mojo.

Sunday night while snuggling with Lilly, I found a big scab on her forehead, near the temple. Monday after our walk and again later in the day, Lilly reached up to kiss me, and when I hugged her back, she squealed in pain. Lilly never cries unless it really hurts. So, I worried.
BUT, for the life of me, I cannot figure out where it hurts.
A few weeks ago, one of Tom’s friends dropped by to chat. The boys stood out front for their conclave, and Lilly decided that Tom’s friend was her newest, very best friend. That’s quite a breakthrough for my fearful girl.
Sometimes Lilly is so intent on playing fetch in a way that doesn’t get Ginko riled up to the point that he ruins the game. The ONLY way to accomplish that is by using a stick rather than a toy. For some reason, Ginko could not care less about sticks. Lilly’s stick strategy worked fine until she became friends with Katie, the borzoi, because Katie had no qualms about stealing sticks.
We had another big-ish snow storm last Friday, so Lilly and I played a little snowball fetch over the weekend. It’s hard to throw and film, and I never seem to capture the really high or wild pounces, but some clips in the new Snowball Fetch video are pretty cute.
When my work and family days get too hectic, I try to fit in several rousing rounds of fetch so that Lilly burns off pent-up border collie energy. Imagine my frustration, then, when after just a few throws she seems bored or annoyed. Seriously, if I make the effort to bundle up, put on real shoes, and interrupt a deadline-soaked day, the least Lilly can do is enjoy it. Right?
