I’m sorry for the delay in posting anything official to the blog. Those who follow us on Twitter and Facebook know that Thursday’s recheck appointment turned into an epic odyssey of waiting and waiting and waiting. It was a LONG day. Then Friday, I had FOUR HOURS of conference calls (one was a 3-hour video call) … before I could start my birthday celebrations. And, now this morning (Saturday), Lilly is having a conniption that I’m at my desk. So, just a quick, rambling update.

Remember that lovely gift package Lilly received from Rocky Mountain Veterinary Neurology after her week-long hospital stay? Well, we think she is channeling her frustration over her brain troubles in new ways.
They tell us that Lilly likely wasn’t in any / much pain, even at the height of the inflammation in her brain and lining of the brain and spinal cord (meningoencephalomyelitis), but I have to wonder if Lilly doesn’t have a headache … after seeing this.

Tom took this picture the other night. Lilly likes to sleep on her back in the evenings. Sometimes, she brings one of her plush toys along. Here you’ll see just how much she loves her KONG Braidz Monkey that the fellas gave me when I toured the KONG factory in Golden, Colorado, earlier this year. It’s beyond cute.

Lilly and I made a little video blog entry for your Friday. It made us laugh, and we hope it brightens your day too. Have a great weekend. P.S. You can see this year’s crop circles in the background.

The Petstages Heartbeat Pillow features a noise-making, electronic device that sounds like a momma dog’s heart beating. It’s meant to comfort young dogs. You know, like the old trick of putting a ticking clock in bed with a new puppy.
Well, my two grown-up canine beasts (photos below) are probably too big and too old for this toy. They pretty much killed the ticking device in the first day.
(Tom says he can fix it.)
But, even without the ticking sound, Ginko — in particular — has adopted the Petstages Heartbeat Pillow as one of his “babies.” Read the rest of this entry »
Many thanks to the folks at Petstages for the free dog toy to review. Check out these pix and our thoughts about Occupi … a food-delivery dog toy that can be used 3 different ways for nervous dogs, active dogs, and bored dogs … via tiny treats, solid busy bars, or paste-like stuffing.

Or … even toys need a hug and a kiss.

Unbeknownst to me, Ginko, or Lilly, Tom snagged a tennis ball out of the dog toy basket to cover a hitch. Now, both dogs are obsessed with it. We keep finding them out in the garage trying to pry it off.

During my recent tour of the KONG headquarters and factory in Golden, Colorado, our friends there gave me a KONG Squeaker, which is essentially a classic KONG made from their puppy-strength rubber with a squeaker inside.

This is the first of three products reviews Champion of My Heart plans to post about the various KONG products we received during a recent tour of the KONG HQ and manufacturing facility in Golden, Colorado. Today, what the dogs think of the KONG Braidz (plush toy). In this case, a purple monkey.

Last week, I got the chance to tour the KONG headquarters, which just happens to be in my hometown of Golden, Colorado. In fact, it’s simply on the far side of North Table Mountain from where we live. The company also has manufacturing centers in other spots in northern Colorado, but the facility closest to us makes the classic KONG shape we all know and love. BIG NEWS …
Soon the classic KONG line will include a teeny-tiny KONG made especially for toy-sized dogs. They’ll be on the market in April, but take my word for it… They could NOT be cuter. Seriously. They look just like the others, but very, very small. I bet they hold about a tablespoon of food, and that’s it.
Here are a few photos from the tour:

Lilly’s ear injury from a few weeks ago appears to be healing and to be infection free. That’s the good news. The crazy part? Well, it seems she may have a permanent hole.

I tell you … it’s never a dull moment around here. Lilly, our amazing canine heroine, ate an entire knot of rope off a toy and got an unexpected ear piercing from Ginko after getting a bit too close to his activity feeder. Here are those harrowing tales.

Many of the Never Shock a Puppy coalition members attended BlogPaws West in Denver, back in September. We even enjoyed a team dinner one night. I was so touched that Debbie Jacobs from FearfulDogs.com brought Lilly and Ginko a gift.

We’ve nearly run out of BlogPaws Schwag to review. Thank goodness, though, we got this Hartz DuraPlay ball. It’s Lilly’s favorite ball, and we thought they were no longer making it because we haven’t been able to find one in local stores, and my emergency stash is depleted.
