I’d call Dog Trots Globe – To Paris & Provence by Chula Wula D’Augue (a sheltie) as barked to Sheron Long a “coffee table book,” except it’s too tiny for that. A diminutive travelogue with darling illustrations and lovely photography, Dog Trots Globe is a perky, quick read.
Not kidding. I read the entire book (160 pages) in about 20 minutes, including going online to watch a video extra, showing thousands of sheep and goats bustling down the streets of Saint-Remy.
As an avid reader — especially now that I finally have a Kindle — I get a LOT of book review requests, and I accept many of them (not all). So, it’s entirely possible I got this one mixed up in my head with another pitched around the same time, but I could swear it was going to be a novel featuring a dog.
It wasn’t.
That’s fine, but for a minute, I was like, “What the heck?”
So, what is Dog Trots Globe, exactly?
The illustrations are crazy-cute!
Chula, a Shetland sheepdog / sheltie, is an enthusiastic and reliable narrator.
The travel and food pix are divine.
Because Dog Trots Globe is written in Chula’s voice, it reads (to me) like a children’s book — funny and cute and enjoyable, with that youthful tinge of innocence and wonder.

For that reason, rather than do our usual random-drawing giveaway, I’m going to send the review copy of the book the publisher gave me to my dog blogging colleague Mel Freer (No Dog About It Blog), who is heavily involved in sheltie rescue in Minnesota. I’d like Mel to give Dog Trots Globe to the next family with young kids that adopts a sheltie.

Charlie Meagher from Dog Trots Globe publisher OIC Books sent me a free review copy of the book. I was not compensated in any way for this review.
I enjoyed Dog Trots Globe far more than I thought I would thanks to the lovely photographs. You’re right that it makes a lovely coffee table book, although small.
Great idea to send it Mel’s way for a donation to a Sheltie adopter.
I think that’s a good idea, Roxanne.
