After experimenting with putting Ginko’s Therapaws mat from Soar Pet Products around the house, I decided it’d be best used inside his crate, where he sleeps at night. That way, I could ensure good, consistent contact with his aching bod.
I was a little worried about it being dark at night and therefore maybe not reflecting as much warmth and such back to him, but …
I think it’s helping. Since our last Therapaws report in March, he has had fewer pain startling episodes, where he seems to jump like something really hurts.
When I took off a couple weeks ago to attend BlogPaws, Tom got used to having Lilly sleep in bed and Ginko sleep on the sofa at night. We kept this arrangement in place for a good week after my return.
And, in just those 10 days or so without regular access to his Therapaws mat, Ginko began getting more of a hitch in his step and showing more pain.
Allergy season, the need for good sleep, and Ginko’s relative pain level have driven us back to our usual set up, with the dogs sleeping crates … and after a few days back in contact with his mat, Ginko does seem generally more comfortable.
(It could be, of course, that it’s getting somewhat warmer weather-wise, but I do think the mat is helping.)

I’m glad to hear that Ginko is feeling a bit better. He can enjoy springtime romps, if the snow EVER melts!!!
