FREE e-book "8 Things to Know About Veterinary Care"

March 24, 2010

For your Wednesday viewing pleasure, a  trio of Lilly photos that chronicle a bit of last week.

If she had sheep, she would sit atop this hill (yes, that’s a hill … it’s just hard to see from this angle) and survey her flock. Even without them, she sits in this spot for hours and hours during the warmer months and keeps an eye on the entire valley.

Lilly is never happier than hanging out with me on a warm day. This was last Wednesday, and if you look closely, you’ll see the thermometer on the wall behind her says about 70 degrees. We got nearly 2 feet of snow 2 days later, but on Wednesday, we played hooky and sat outside in the sun together.

Here is a shot I took after filming yesterday’s Snowball Fetch video. We call this … Lilly, the snowbeast.

Trained as a traditional journalist and based in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, USA, I'm a full-time freelance writer for magazines, websites, and private clients. I don't just love dogs. I need them in my life. Seriously.

  1. …and (sorry for the fourth comment) I did not see the bit about those being taken last Wednesday. What a scatter-brained day for me.

  2. Woops. It’s easy to forget about the snow here in NY, and sometimes I forget that you and KB live in the same place. hah. It looked so dry in these pictures!

  3. Maybe all dogs have lookout spots. Some more obvious than others.

And, Sam … since we’ve gotten about 5 feet of snow in the last week, it may be a while before the home agility field is clear and/or not a mud pit.

Sorry for the delay on that AND on Katie’s visit. It’s snowed every weekend for ages, so that visit with our silly dog friend keeps getting postponed.

  4. Which, reminds me.. when are you going to get that agility ring of yours in working order? I want to see your girl in action again.

  5. I love the middle one. That’s a million dollar grin.

She seems like she’s a happy girl these days, eh?

  6. Kona has her lookout point too, but she mostly surveys they oak tree, waiting for squirrels. Lilly sure looks like a happy pup. She lives in such a perfect place for enjoying time outdoors.

  7. I just wrote a whole comment and then nuked it. Darn.

I think that Lilly’s spot on the hill for surveying is like K’s love of climbing boulders to watch for the scary dog pack. For the whole start of our daily hike, K climbs boulders and surveys whenever she can.

Great photos! 70 deg? How was it 30 deg warmer at your house than at mine???

  8. I had to laugh at that first photo. B does the same thing – she has a spot where she will sit all day if you let her, where she can gaze out over the neighbor’s goat farm. We refer to this spot as “B’s outpost.”
