Terrible Idea: The Wireless Crate

I learned about this really bad idea for a dog product from Boulder Dog and others on Twitter. The wireless dog crate. Yes! You too can scare your dog (using shocks) into staying in a small space without unsightly crates, x-pens, or baby gates. Turn your dog into a mentally ill mime in one easy step.

AUGH! I really wish people who don’t know about dogs wouldn’t create dog products.

Here’s a thought? How about you take the time, using positive reinforcement training, to teach your dog “Go to Place,” or as it’s called here NEST? That and a good STAY will do the same thing without causing fear and anxiety.

Oh my g….. I don’t even know what to say. Horrifying. I cannot believe anyone would market something like that.

That’s just crazy! Teaching commands inside the house is relatively easy (at least with my dog) so I don’t know why anyone would resort to using shocks. Now outside loose in a large area, that’s a bit more of a challenge but still doable as we’ve seen from KBs posts.

Good lord–the invisible crate idea is just creepy. Crispin’s crate command is “time for bed,” or even just “is it time?”–he looooves his crate and will remind me that it’s time if I leave it too late. Or he just unlatches it and puts himself to bed.

Love Lilly’s nesting–so smart!

That’s awful – the shock bed. People want ‘no brain’ easy solutions to things and don’t stop to think about what it’ll be like from the dog’s viewpoint.

It is easy to teach many things using positive reinforcement but lots of people don’t know it.
