Charlie, a 7-year-old border collie, needs a new home. She has fear issues and is getting completely stressed out by a small child in her home. I’ve emailed nearly 30 dog-loving friends in CO, but I promised to post here too. Please help us find a good, new home for a dog that truly fits the Champion of My Heart motto. You can read the full plea I received below, but here are the basics.

Charlie

  • 7-year-old
  • female Border Collie
  • fear aggression issues toward small children and
other dogs (nipped child recently, did not break
    skin)
  • fearful urination (new people,
    sounds)
  • has taken behavior meds w/o much
    success (clomipramine and also prozac)
  • some obedience and agility training in the past
    (about 5 years ago)
  • weighs about 41 pounds (would likely jump at
    20-inches or over on course)
  • traditional repair knee surgery (not the TPLO or the
    TTA) a few years ago
  • eye problem requires drops twice a
    day
  • same home since
    puppyhood
  • came from a working dog breeder in Pueblo, CO

Personally, I’m not convinced that charlie has to be an ONLY dog. I suspect she might do great in the right home with the right dog pals, but they are asking for an active home with no kids or other dogs.

Again, the original plea and more details are below.

Original NOTE from Ruddy Family

It is with a very heavy heart that I write this. We are
currently looking for a new home for our seven year old Border Collie, Charlie
(female). Charlie is a very sweet, active dog. Unfortunately, Charlie has had a
hard time adjusting to being a “big sister” to our three year old daughter.
Though Charlie tolerates our daughter, she is afraid of her and has showed some
aggression towards her. We would like to find a home for Charlie without any
other dogs or children with parents who are willing to play ball with her on a
daily basis.

Charlie is well trained but needs attention. Again, she
needs to be played with nearly every day. She is not destructive and is
housebroken. However, she is a nervous urinator and may urinate upon meeting
someone new or hearing a loud sound. Often it can be avoided upon meeting a
stranger if the person ignores her for several minutes before petting her.

Charlie has been trained in obedience and agility, though she needs a
little practice in obedience. She does have a few health problems including two
eye conditions that require eye drops twice a day. She has had knee surgery but
is completely healed and has no problems with the knee for several years now. We
are willing to provide copies of her medical records. We are also willing to
provide food, medication, and her crate as well as a financial contribution to
help cover her costs.

If you know someone who can provide the love and
attention Charlie needs and has a home with a large yard and no other pets or
children please forward this information on to them. We would love to find a
happy home for Charlie so she can live out the rest of her life in a loving and
caring environment.
